Time Out For Women
TOFW was such an amazing weekend! This year was my first time going, and I definitely want to go again. A group of girls from my ward went, and I got to see a few friends that I haven't seen for a long time! But it was so fun to have my mom come with me! We stayed in a lovely hotel, ate frosty's and fries in bed (against my diet, but it was part of the TIMEOUT!) , didn't get much sleep, and together we absolutely loved all the presenters and music along with 2,000 other women! The theme was SEEK THE GOOD!
Here are some of the highlights from my notes: (my mom took much better notes than me!)
Friday night - We heard from John Bytheway (hilarious!), Virginia H. Pearce (Pres. and Sis. Hinckley's daughter), and had a muscial pesentation by Macy Robison which was great and a tear jerker!!
Few things from John Bytheway: (I felt like this presentation would come in handy when my kids become teenagers!)
"If you surround yourself with skunky stuff you will stink!"
"Regardless of what your intentions are, you become what you surround yourself with."
"Surround yourself with Christ!"
He quoted Elder Packer,"We are raising our children in enemy territory."
Sister Pearce told so many amazing stories! She has the sweetest/funniest personality! Wonder where she gets that from?
On Saturday we heard from many: Mary Ellen Edmunds, Emily Watts, D. Kelley Ogden, Merrilee Boyack, Emily Freeman, and we got Jericho Road all day!
Mary Ellen Edmunds taught us to "recognize our own goodness and know that we were all born good! Don't try to be different, just be good. Goodness is contagious, spread it around! If you send good out, good will come back to you! Look for the good in others. Don't be a busybody (gossiper)!"
Emily Watts taught us to 5 things:
1. Develop a thick skin.
2. Do yourself the honor to expect to do hard things from yourself and your children.
3. Stability of well chosen traditions is important. Does not have to be grand, just consistent!
4. Think of yourself as a person. Take time to do good for yourself.
5. Catch people doing good and say something!
D. Kelly Ogden quoted Marvin J. Ashton
"Greatness is best measured by how well an individual responds to the happenings in life that appear to be totally unfair, unreasonable, and undeserved."
LOVE THIS QUOTE!
He also taught us how to sing I am a Child of God in Hebrew, and told us that we were singing in the same language that Jesus spoke. So POWERFUL!
Merrille Boyack taught us CPR, Caring Plus Response
1- open our eyes to see
2- open our hearts to feel
3- take action, your way
4. be generous, donate money/time/talents
You must be the change you wish to see in the world!
I don't have any notes from Emily Freeman but I remember her being so spiritual and amazing!
I was not the best at taking notes. This is only a little of what was presented and learned......I learned so much at this event, and am grateful for what I felt there and what I learned! Wow! I said LEARNED a lot!
And I left my camera at home so Aaron would take pictures of the kids for St. Patrick's Day.
But I did steal this photo from my friend Jenny, who is an amazing person!! So glad I got to see her!
